Could This Have Been Prevented?

Two cops from 2001 to 2006 were subject of 105 complaints (Cop1: 52 Complaints, Cop2: 53)

Fact1:  These officers were not reprimanded or disciplined during that time.

 

Fact2:  As part of an elite drug taskforce, they unlawfully stopped and detained individuals, unlawfully searched individuals and residences, deprived individuals of money without due process of law, and charged people with offenses based upon false evidence.

 

Fact3:  "Innocent people -- not just drug dealers, not just bad guys -- but innocent people were hurt and hurt deeply by this [meaning the cops criminal activities]," Prof. Craig Futterman, University of Chicago, said.

 

Fact4:  They stole $600K from 2004 to 2005

 

Fact5:  Several other members of the unit have pleaded guilty to charges in federal and state courts.

 

Fact6:  Ringleader hired a hit man to suppress another officer's testimony against him.
